The world's tallest bridge opened to traffic over the weekend in China.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge soars nearly 2,050 feet above the Beipan River in the southwestern Chinese province of Guizhou, about 685 miles northwest of Hong Kong.
It snatched the previous record from another bridge in the same province: The Beipanjiang Bridge, which reaches over the same river.
The new tallest option spans 4,659 feet – or .088 miles – according to the BBC and state-run Chinese network CGTN. Multiple state outlets reported that the structure caps "an engineering feat three years in the making." See video of the bridge at the top of this story.
According to the BBC, local officials reported it cuts driving time between the river canyon's two sides from two hours to two minutes.
The bridge stands almost as high as China's Shanghai Tower, a skyscraper that soars 2,073 feet into the air.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge in southwest China's Guizhou province, now the world's highest, opened to traffic on September 28, 2025. After three years of construction, it surpasses another bridge in the same province, marking a major engineering achievement.
It opened to traffic on Sunday, Sept. 28, both outlets reported, and it has a glass walkway.
A café rests atop one of the structure's towers, which is about a half-mile in the air. Tourists can also bungee jump from the bridge.

Beipanjiang Bridge in China stands 1,854 feet. The bridge links Guizhou and Yunnan and opened in late 2016.
Royal Gorge Bridge is America's tallest bridge and stands 956 feet above the Arkansas River in Colorado.
Tower Bridge in London is a tall bridge, but stands more than half the size of the new record keeper. It's 800 feet tall. (London Bridge is not far behind standing 525 feet tall.)
