In the exclusive trailer shared with PEOPLE, both members of the cast and fans weigh in on some of the show's biggest subjects, from Rory's college choice to whether they're Team Dean, Team Jess or Team Logan.

"That was the amazing thing about it. It told you that as long as you have one person who loves you, you can make it," Kelly Bishop says of the Stars Hollow ethos at the trailer's end.

As fans discuss what the series meant to them and their emotional connection to it, cast members including Padalecki and Agena also get teary-eyed discussing their time on the show.

Padalecki even weighs in on one of the most controversial moments from his character, Dean. Defending Dean's decision to cheat on his wife, Padalecki joked, "Rory made me do it!"

Meanwhile, Murray joked, "Tristan totally would have been endgame."

The documentary critiques the show's impact and historical importance from a wholly new and different perspective. What's even more unique is that fans can get in on the fun by donating to the Kickstarter for the film.

Drink Coffee, Talk Fast is not affiliated with, sponsored, or endorsed by Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. or the producers of Gilmore Girls.

Donations at different levels result in varied awards recognizing the contributions. A small contribution can get fans cool swag including sticker packs, t-shirts, and early streaming access. More sizable contributions can score donors unseen content, signed posters, and even things like an associate producer credit and invitations to an in-person screening in Los Angeles.

Drink Coffee, Talk Fast is being directed by documentary filmmakers Meghna Balakumar and Kevin Konrad Hanna (Clockwork Girl). The project is the follow-up film for Hanna, following the release of the acclaimed Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters documentary, which he directed alongside Jim Demonakos, who is producing Drink Coffee, Talk Fast.

The documentary aims to tell audiences just how this one-of-a-kind series came to be, why it continues to resonate across generations, and how its unique blend of humor, heart, and pop culture shaped a devoted worldwide fan community with an in-depth look at its creation and the connections it continues to foster.

"Needless to say, it's unusual to follow a documentary about a legendary comic cartoonist with a film about a seminal TV show. But the creator of Hellboy and the cast of Gilmore Girls have more in common than you might think. They both have rabid fanbases, inspire passionate discourse, and have created stories that will continue to be talked about, with love and affection, for decades to come," Hanna shares in a statement celebrating the campaign.

Of the documentary, Balakumar says, "The interviews that we've already conducted with the cast have been a delight. We've shot more than 100 hours of footage and have already unearthed stories, commentary, critiques, and more. And we're continuing to shoot more interviews in the coming months to present the most complete, full, and truly new story of the show's impact and legacy that is only possible at this historical moment."

"As one of the most celebrated and rewatched series of the 21st century, the show has inspired audiences to dream bigger, talk faster, and cherish the people and places that feel like home," said producer Jim Demonakos.
