Even award-winning actors are afraid of playing big musical stars.

In Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, Jeremy Allen White portrays rockstar Bruce Springsteen and his struggles to reconcile with the pressures of success as he records the album Nebraska in the early 1980s. The film, which also stars Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Stephen Graham, Odessa Young, Gaby Hoffmann, Marc Maron and David Krumholtz, was written and directed by Scott Cooper and shown at the New York Film Festival on Sunday.

In a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight, White made a personal admission about the role.

"I mean, taking this job was the most frightening thing I've done in my career, the 34-year-old actor admitted. "I know how beloved Bruce is, and rightfully so. Music is such an interesting thing. You feel so close to the artist, and so I knew doing this could disappoint a lot of people."

But, he also continued to explain how supportive the "Dancing in the Dark" singer was towards White during the process of recording the songs and filming the movie. The Bear star recalled the time when he first showed Springsteen the songs he recorded for Deliver Me From Nowhere, and the rockstar told White that he "sounds great" and "sounds like me, but not just like me. You made this song your own. And, that's how I want you to make this film."

"So very early on, I had his permission to make the man my own and make the story my own, which meant a lot," White concluded.

Born in Brooklyn in 1991, White first gained recognition as Phillip Gallagher on Showtime's long-running series Shameless from 2011 to 2021. His portrayal of the brilliant yet self-destructive character earned him critical praise and a devoted fan base. After Shameless, White took on film roles in projects like The Rental and After Everything. His big break came from FX's The Bear, where he has won Golden Globes and Emmy awards for playing Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, a chef navigating grief, family drama and the pressures of the culinary world.

Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere is expected to hit movie theaters in the United States on Oct. 24. Meanwhile, fans can watch his current TV show, The Bear, on Hulu.
