MrBeast is in hot water, again, after the YouTuber trapped a man inside a burning building for a $500,000 cash prize.
MrBeast, real name James "Jimmy" Donaldson, released the video "Would You Risk Dying For $500,000?" on Saturday, Sept. 27, in which a stuntman must navigate through "death traps" like escaping a burning building, getting shot out of a cannon into fire and surviving an explosion for a chance at the prize. In the 25-minute video, MrBeast calls it the "craziest thing we've ever filmed."
MrBeast's channel is known for the outrageous ways in which the YouTuber has people compete for large sums of money. Some of the lengths he has gone to – including trapping strangers in an isolation chamber, a nuclear bunker and a maximum security prison for 100 days – have drawn criticism for their questionable ethics.
MrBeast is one of the most-watched creators on the website, garnering millions of views on each video. Saturday's video currently stands at nearly 53 million views.
MrBeast responded to the "concern" users had over the burning building video, noting the safety measures put in place.
"In case there's any concern about the safety of the stuntman contestant, I just wanted to mention that we take safety extremely seriously," MrBeast wrote in a pinned comment under the video. "Every challenge was tested by multiple stuntmen, we have a full rescue team on standby with firefighters, EMTs and divers equipped with an ambulance and fire truck."
He continued: "We also had a pyro team controlling the fires and multiple fire suppression methods on every challenge to ensure we could essentially turn off the fire if there was ever an issue. But our stunt coordinator did an amazing job as always, and none of these systems were ever needed."

The video got users riled up on X, with one popular tweet calling it "literally the plot of dystopian series like Squid Game and The Hunger Games."
"I do appreciate the new honesty of MrBeast. Hes just like, 'Ya, I torture people for entertainment, its my thing,'" another user wrote.
The comments on YouTube, however, were generally positive, though one user wrote, "Mrbeast is slowly turning into mrjigsaw," likely referring to Jigsaw, the sadistic villain from the "Saw" franchise.

In September 2024, MrBeast and Amazon were sued by contestants of the YouTuber's Amazon Prime series "Beast Games," with claims of unpaid wages, failure to provide meals and medical care, sexual harassment and more. The show featured over 1,000 contestants competing for $5 million in prize money.
