Welcome to Plathville has closed its seventh chapter.
The TLC reality series, which premiered in 2019, wrapped season 7 with a tense finale on Sept. 30. In it, former couple Ethan Plath and Olivia Plath hashed out the final stages of their divorce. Ahead of the episode's release, Olivia announced that she would not be returning to the series.
"Today, the last scene/episode of Welcome to Plathville that I will ever film will air," she wrote on her Instagram Stories the day of the finale. "This chapter closing brings some sadness - it is sad for me to see who I once knew, what they had the potential to become and the path they chose instead. It could have been so different."
Her announcement comes over a year after she and Ethan jointly filed for divorce in February 2024. The drama within their five-year marriage and Olivia's strained relationship with her in-laws were consistent storylines throughout the show's run.
Though the network hasn't revealed its plans for the future of Welcome to Plathville, many fans wondered if Olivia's exit is a sign that its run has come to an end.

Will there be a season 8 of Welcome to Plathville?

TLC has not yet renewed Welcome to Plathville for an eighth season. The reality series premiered its seventh installment in July 2025 — and the family's dynamic was quite different from when they were first introduced on the small screen.
In 2019, the series followed Christian Fundamentalists Kim and Barry as they raised their sheltered nine children — Ethan, Hosanna, Micah, Moriah, Lydia, Isaac, Amber, Cassia and Mercy — in an increasingly modern world.
But by June 2022, Kim and Barry had announced they were separating after 24 years of marriage, officially filing for divorce in June 2024. Since then, the once-close-knit family has splintered, with both parents and children charting separate paths.

If the reality show returned to TLC for another season, most of the family and their partners would likely return. During season 7, Lydia married her boyfriend of two months, Zac Wyse, and Ethan introduced his new girlfriend, Teegan Nichols.
Seeing as how Micah broke up with Veronica Peters in early 2025, there's less of a chance that she'll continue to appear on the show.
Why is Olivia Plath leaving Welcome to Plathville?

In May 2025, Olivia shared in an Instagram video that she had "asked to be released" from her contract on the TLC reality series. The Welcome to Plathville star later shared that her scene in the season 7 finale was the last one from the show that will ever air.
"When I look back at the last 7(!) years of my life on this show, I feel so many emotions," she wrote on her Instagram Stories. "In many ways, I grew up with all of you watching and supporting me. I was a sheltered, newly married, fundie kid when the show started and had no clue who I was."
Though she noted that there were "challenges" throughout her run on the reality series, she said she was "grateful" for the journey and all the lessons that came with it. Olivia also her followers on her contract with TLC.
"This episode was filmed a while ago, and since then, I've worked hard to get out of my contract — and succeeded!" the reality star wrote. "I have not only endeavored to distance myself from hate, bullying, but also reported harmful behavior, and tried to stand up for what is right. It sickens me to see violence, hatred, and dysfunction presented as entertainment."
Olivia concluded the message by noting that, although she was still bound by a non-disclosure agreement, she would answer any questions from fans as she could.
