A new cast of characters is joining the true crime solvers at the Arconia for season 5 of Only Murders in the Building
Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short's characters reunite to solve another murder in their building
Their investigation gets more complicated when several new faces become involved
A new season of Only Murders in the Building means a new cast of characters!
The comedic Hulu murder-mystery series follows neighbors Charles (Steve Martin), Oliver (Martin Short) and Mabel (Selena Gomez), who bond over their love for true crime and launch a podcast detailing all the murder investigations in their ritzy New York City building.
Over the last four seasons, the hit show has highlighted a different murder victim and pool of suspects each season, and the fifth installment is no different. After the building's beloved doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca), is found dead in the courtyard's fountain, the group comes together once again to get to the bottom of the mystery.
"Our beloved doorman has a hold of a large amount of tenants in our buildings' secrets, and many other things about his life were interesting for me to sort of explore," the show's co-creator John Hoffman told Decider in October 2024. "We really are dipping our toe into a New York City in season 5 that feels particularly ripped from the headlines in certain ways that we've not done before."
Season 5 will feature returning characters Loretta (Meryl Streep), Detective Williams (Da'Vine Joy Randolph), Teddy Dimas (Nathan Lane), Vince Fish (Richard Kind), Howard (Michael Cyril Creighton) and Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni).
The season, which premiered its first three episodes on Sept. 9, will also feature newcomers Bobby Cannavale, Renée Zellweger, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest and Jermaine Fowler.
Here's everything to know about the new characters in Only Murders in the Building season 5.

Zellweger is making her debut in Only Murders in the Building!
The actress plays Camila White, a Manhattan billionaire who became one of the three wealthiest people in the world from her work in the N.Y.C. hospitality scene. She mysteriously ends up with the group of true crime solvers at the Arconia after doorman Lester is found dead.
"The easiest way to win is to make your opponent think they're playing a different game entirely," she says in the trailer.
Zellweger has had a decades-long acting career and is most known for her roles in Bridget Jones's Diary, Nurse Betty and Chicago, among many others. She has won Academy Awards for her roles in Cold Mountain and Judy.

Bash's presence, along with the two other new billionaire characters, immediately raises red flags for the group of true crime solvers, as Mabel says in the trailer, "Something's not adding up. We found three of the richest people in the world sniffing around a murder scene."
Waltz is a renowned actor who has won Academy Awards for his work in Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained. He's also had notable roles in Carnage, The French Dispatch, Spectre and No Time to Die.

Lerman's character, Jay Pflug, rounds out the group of billionaires. Unlike the other two, Jay is on the younger end of the spectrum and became a billionaire as the heir to a pharmaceutical monopoly.
Along with Camila and Bash, Jay meets with Mabel, Charles and Oliver to discuss the death of Lester.
"This is the new mob of New York! These people could be killers," Oliver proclaims in the trailer.
Ahead of the season 5 premiere, Lerman told PEOPLE that the set was "even more fun" than he could've imagined and that it was "a really good" cast to be a part of.
"It's an oddly fun set to be on," he said in July 2025. "It's so great. That's a really fun show to work on. I had a really good time."
Lerman has starred in several movies — including The Perks of Being a Wallflower, the Percy Jackson franchise, The Butterfly Effect, The Three Musketeers and Oh, Hi!.

Key plays N.Y.C. Mayor Tillman, who also takes an interest in Lester's sudden death. While he isn't in the billionaire's club, Mayor Tillman still seems to be a little suspicious as he faces corruption accusations amid a re-election campaign.
Prior to the season 5 premiere, Key told PEOPLE that he "had the time of his life" filming the series.
"It's a lovely thing in our business when you can walk onto a set where everything is run really smoothly, and everybody is warm and welcoming," he said in September 2025. "It was a wonderful project to work on."
Key went on to call working with Martin and Short "an absolute delight" because of how "lovely" they both are.
"Working with Steve Martin and Martin Short is an absolute delight," he said. "Not just from being overwhelmed by nostalgia or how big of a fan I am of both of them—they're also just lovely men. They're both very unique in their own way."
Key has had no shortage of experience working on comedy sets, as he co-created and costarred in the hit sketch series Key & Peele, for which he won an Emmy Award. He's also acted in the television shows Playing House, Friends from College and Reboot; and the films Horrible Bosses 2, Pitch Perfect 2, The Lion King and Wonka.

Although Randall initially seems hesitant to fill Lester's shoes, he gets more comfortable after the former doorman's widow gives him her late husband's ledger filled with information about each resident.
Fowler broke into the comedy scene with the shows Guy Code and Friends of the People before he scored his own special, Give 'Em Hell, Kid. He has gone on to act in Coming 2 America, Superior Donuts and Crashing.

Beanie Feldstein attends the SIMKHAI show in February 2025 in New York City.
Feldstein plays Althea, Mabel's former childhood friend, who comes back into her life when she moves into the penthouse in the Arconia. However, things have changed since their childhood, as Althea is now a pop star who goes by "Thé" —pronounced "Tea."
Mabel isn't thrilled when she discovers that Althea is moving into her building, as they previously had a falling out. Now, the podcaster struggles with her former friend's fame and success, while Althea seems to enjoy boasting about her status.
After Feldstein's casting was announced in April 2025, she posted the news on her Instagram and wrote, "!!! BEYOND EXCITED TO HEAD TO THE ARCONIA !!!"
Feldstein appeared in a myriad of movies — including Neighbors 2, Lady Bird and Fan Girl — before she had her breakout role in Booksmart, for which she earned a Golden Globe nomination. She went on to star in the Broadway revival of Funny Girl and later portrayed Monica Lewinsky in the show American Crime Story: Impeachment.

Bobby Cannavale as Nicky Caccimelio
Disney/Patrick Harbron

However, his possible involvement becomes more confusing when his wife, Sofia, asks for the podcasters' help after Nicky goes missing. The group later visits Sofia at her and Nicky's home to learn more about their relationship and their ties to the mob.
Cannavale has acted in comedy and drama series alike over the years, including Third Watch, Nurse Jackie, Blue Bloods, Mr. Robot, Homecoming, Nine Perfect Strangers, Master of None and The Watcher.
He received Emmy Awards for his roles in Will & Grace and Boardwalk Empire. Cannavale has also acted in the films The Station Agent, I, Tonya, The Irishman, Annie and The Other Guys.

Dianne Wiest as Lorraine
Disney/Patrick Harbron
Dianne Wiest acting in season 5 of 'Only Murders in the Building.'
Wiest rounds out the group of new characters as she plays Lester's grieving widow, Lorraine.
Although Lester had previously spoken about his wife, she never physically appeared on the series until after his death. Lorraine was previously a professional singer who met her beloved husband outside the Arconia while she was singing there.
"When I look at this cast this season, in Season 5, Dianne Wiest is just a personal favorite of mine forever," Hoffman gushed to Parade in September 2025. "And I couldn't believe when I was talking to her on a Zoom about doing it. And then she just fulfilled in the greatest ways."
Wiest is an accomplished actress who has won several awards for her work — including two Academy Awards for Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway, a Golden Globe Award for Bullets Over Broadway and two Emmy Awards for Road to Avonlea and In Treatment. She's also acted in Footloose, The Lost Boys, Edward Scissorhands, I Care a Lot and Life in Pieces.
