Mississippi State became the first SEC school to get fined under the conference's new field-storming policy.
The SEC announced Monday that MSU had been fined $500,000 after fans stormed the field at the end of the Bulldogs' dramatic win over then-No. 12 Arizona State. Brenan Thompson caught a 58-yard TD pass from Blake Shapen with 30 seconds left to give the Bulldogs a 24-20 win over the defending Big 12 champions.
That set off bedlam in the stands at Davis-Wade Stadium, and fans were so excited that they crashed the field as soon as the game was over. The win moved the Bulldogs to 2-0 on the season. In 2024, Mississippi State finished 2-10 and was 0-8 in SEC play.

The SEC changed its field-storming fine structure over the summer to implement fines of $500,000 every time a crowd enters the field or court before the visiting team has a chance to head back to the locker room. Under last year's rules, the field-storming would have only cost Mississippi State $100,000. Schools were fined $100,000 for their first offense, $250,000 for a second offense and then $500,000 if it happened a third time.
Mississippi State's fine also dwarfs the fine that Florida State got from the ACC for its fans storming the field at the conclusion of the Seminoles' upset of Alabama in Week 1. FSU was fined $50,000 by the ACC.
