A California man was arrested after being accused of the murders of two victims and attempting to kill a third, whom he met on an online dating app, officials say.

Rockim Prowell, 34, of Inglewood, is facing several charges linked to the incidents between 2021 and 2025, according to a Sept. 8 news release from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

It's unclear if Prowell has an attorney who can comment on his behalf. The district attorney's office did not specify the dating app used in the alleged crimes.

Prowell accused in 3 incidents; remains of 1 victim have not been found

In the first incident, Prowell is accused of gunning down and stealing the car of 51-year-old Miguel Angel King in July 2021, prosecutors said.

King's vehicle was recovered over a week later, just miles from Prowell's residence, and forensic evidence traced back to him, the news release stated. The victim's body was located in mid-August in the Angeles National Forest.

In August 2023, when the second incident occurred, officials allege Prowell met up with Robert Gutierrez, 53, at a location near Prowell's home. Gutierrez disappeared and was reported missing two days later, and authorities still have not found his remains, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office stated.

In a third incident, in February 2025, Prowell met with a 40-year-old man whose identity was not made public. Officials say Prowell "allegedly bound the victim, stole his wallet and beat him with a baseball bat. The victim managed to escape, but Prowell chased the man in a vehicle, striking him and breaking his leg." The victim survived the attack.

During Prowell's arrest, prosecutors say investigators found Gutierrez's vehicle in his garage, as well as other evidence.

Prowell could face the death penalty, prosecutors say

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Prowell is facing one count of attempted murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and two counts each of carjacking and second-degree burglary.

He was also charged with two counts of murder "with the special circumstance allegation of multiple murders," officials noted.

"Imagine the terror and horror these victims felt after being duped into believing they were meeting for one reason, only to face inexplicable violence," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said in a statement.

"These were predatory acts that showed a total disregard of life. This suspect has now been stopped in his tracks because of the diligent and tenacious work done by investigators at both the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department," Hochman continued.

Prowell has a criminal history and is on probation for a string of burglaries executed between 2019 and 2021 in LA and Beverly Hills. As KCBS and NBC 4 reported, he wore a mask when committing the crimes.

According to prosecutors, if found guilty, Prowell could face life without parole or the death penalty.
