Some early-season losses have led to some serious movement among the best teams in women's college volleyball.
Defending national champion Penn State took a tumble in the rankings and Nebraska maintained its grip on the top spot in the latest AVCA Taraflex Division I women's volleyball poll released on Monday, Sept. 8. Nebraska, with convincing wins over top-5 opponents Stanford and Kentucky already on its resume, received all 61 first-place votes after being ranked No. 1 in the preseason.
Penn State began the season at No. 2 but fell again this week on the heels of a third-straight loss. The Nittany Lions dropped matches to Arizona State, TCU and Kentucky before recovering to beat New Hampshire in their most recent matchup.
TCU made the biggest climb this week, improving from No. 24 to No. 15 after its upset of Penn State and consecutive wins over UCLA. Southern California, off to a 5-0 start to the season, also jumped up six spots to No. 16.
