Prince Harry is set for a packed schedule during his return to the U.K. next week.
In addition to attending the WellChild Awards in London on Monday, Sept. 8 — which poignantly falls on the third anniversary of his beloved grandmother Queen Elizabeth's death — the Duke of Sussex will travel to Nottingham the following day for a special charity event spotlighting grassroots organizations working with young people.
Harry, 40, has been patron of WellChild since 2007 and has made the awards a priority, attending on 13 previous occasions. The charity is one of the few causes he retained after stepping back as a full-time working royal in 2020 alongside his wife, Meghan Markle. The ceremony honors the courage of seriously ill children and their families, and Harry will once again deliver a speech and present the award for Most Inspirational Child (aged 4–6).
Then on Tuesday, Sept. 9, the Duke of Sussex will announce a substantial donation to Children in Need during an event hosted at the Community Recording Studio (CRS) in Nottingham. The gathering will bring together local groups, including CRS, Epic Partners and Coach Core, alongside stakeholders and funders, to highlight their work tackling youth violence and supporting young people through outreach, sports and creative arts.
Harry's itinerary will include a private briefing with Children in Need, the Police and Crime Commission and community leaders, as well as informal conversations with young people he has met in the past. He will also watch live performances from CRS artists before giving a short speech and touring the facility.
The Duke of Sussex was last in the U.K. in April for a court hearing related to his appeal over the removal of his official security — a case he ultimately lost.
It is thought that he has not seen his father, King Charles, 76, since February 2024, when Harry made a brief visit to London following the King's cancer diagnosis. His previous trips to the U.K., including for the Invictus Games' 10th anniversary in June 2024 and last year's WellChild Awards, did not include father-son time amid their ongoing estrangement.
In recent months, however, there have been indications that the strain between father and son may be softening — hinting at the possibility of a reconciliation ahead.
Whether Harry will reunite with Charles during this visit remains uncertain, but his announced outings underscore his continued commitment to causes he has championed for nearly two decades.
In a statement on the WellChild website confirming his attendance on Aug. 28, Harry said: "I am always privileged to attend the WellChild Awards and meet the incredible children, families and professionals who inspire us all with their strength and spirit."
