Bones found in Washington state, where law enforcement said Travis Decker killed his three young daughters, "are not human," according to FBI officials.

The FBI's Seattle field office confirmed on Friday, Aug. 29, that bones were found around the Rock Island Campground in Chelan County, as part of the ongoing manhunt for Decker. The agency gave an update on the recovered bones on Wednesday, Sept. 3, saying that Central Washington University determined they did not belong to a human.

"While we do not anticipate further updates related to this specific search, the investigationcontinues," W. Mike Herrington, special agent in charge of the FBI's Seattle field office, said in a news release.

Herrington called the recent "extensive search" just "one step in a three-month process" by multiple agencies to find Decker or any other evidence of the murder of his three daughters.

"In two days, the search team cleared almost 250 acres by carefully covering rough terrain on foot, and further efforts can build on the knowledge we gained through the electronic mapping of the area," he added.

U.S. Marshals in South Idaho are investigating a tip into a reported sighting of Travis Decker, wanted on murder charges in the killings of his daughters ages 5, 8 and 9. Decker may have visited the Sawtooth National Forest over the July 4, 2025 weekend.

Decker is wanted on murder charges in connection with the suffocation deaths of Paityn Decker, 9; Evelyn Decker, 8, and Olivia Decker, 5, of Wenatchee in Chelan County, about 150 miles east of Seattle.

The girls' mother reported them missing on May 30, after the sisters left their home for a planned custody visit with their father, who was 33 at the time he disappeared, according to the Wenatchee Police Department.

A Chelan County Sheriff's Office deputy found the girls' bodies June 2 at the campground, the agency said. The site is south of Grindstone Mountain and part of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest on the slopes of the Cascade Mountain Range.

Chelan County Sheriff Mike Morrison previously said local, state and federal officials had received more than 500 tips and dozens of reported sightings of Decker, but none had been confirmed.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 3, local law enforcement, as well as U.S. Marshals, remained in the hunt.
