Bones that were discovered near a Washington state campground as authorities searched for a man suspected of killing his three daughters are not human remains, the FBI said Wednesday.
The bones were found amid a manhunt for Travis Decker, the father of Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5, whose bodies were discovered at a Cascade Mountains campground on June 2.
The bones were discovered as the FBI and other authorities searched an area around the Rock Island Campground on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26, the FBI said.
The bones were then sent for analysis to determine if they were animal or human.
"While we do not anticipate further updates related to this specific search, the investigation continues," W. Mike Herrington, special agent in charge of the FBI Seattle field office, said in a statement Wednesday.
"This extensive search was just one step in a three-month process by a variety of agencies to locate Travis Decker, discover signs of his whereabouts, or find any other evidence of the murder of his three daughters," Herrington said.
The children's bodies were found with plastic bags over their heads, according to officials. DNA matching Decker was on the bags, the Chelan County Sheriff's Office has said. Autopsies carried out in early June determined the cause of death was suffocation as a result of homicide.
The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a reward of up to $20,000 for information leading directly to Decker's arrest. He should be considered armed and dangerous, the FBI said.
On May 30, Decker's ex-wife reported that Decker did not return the girls after a planned visit, authorities said. The report wasn't enough to trigger an Amber Alert, the Washington State Patrol has said.
Decker has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and first-degree kidnapping.
