ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills backup defensive tackle DeWayne Carter will miss the season after tearing his Achilles tendon, two people with knowledge of the injury confirmed to The on Sunday.

The people spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the team is off and has yet to reveal the injury. The SchultzReport first reported the news earlier in the day.

Carter has already had surgery for the injury sustained in practice on Wednesday, one of the people said.

The 24-year-old was selected in the third round of the 2024 draft out of Duke. His development was slowed last season after missing five games with a wrist injury.

Carter's loss further depletes Buffalo's depth at the position in preparing to open the season by hosting Baltimore on Sept. 7. Veteran free agent addition Larry Ogunjobi will miss the first six games of the season serving an NFL suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancers.

Minus Carter, the Bills are down to two rookies, T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker, serving as backups behind starters Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones.

Buffalo's practice squad includes defensive tackles Zion Logue and Jordan Phillips, an 11-year veteran who returns for a fourth stint with the team. Phillips is expected to require several weeks to get into game shape after missing the entire offseason before signing with Buffalo last week.

The first full Saturday of college football is in the books! A few games are left on the Week 1 slate, but plenty of drama has already been provided.

Saturday saw a huge clash of titans, in Columbus, Ohio, as #3 Ohio State hosted #1 Texas. Two first-year starting quarterbacks were at the helms of both offenses, and it showed as defense owned the day. The low-scoring affair concluded with Ohio State's defense coming out on top as the Buckeyes took down the Longhorns 14-7. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey breakdown the game. Has Arch Manning been overhyped, or is the heavy criticism coming a little too soon? Does Ohio State look poised to make a run at repeating as national champions? Plus, Saturday's College Gameday at the Texas vs. Ohio State game was Lee Corso's final show. He went out a winner on his 431st headgear pick, ending the same way he started, by picking the Buckeyes. He then watched the game from the press box and Ross tells a behind the scenes story of Lee Corso joining him up in the press box to watch the game.

Later, the guys chat about some more Saturday drama. The biggest shock of the day was #8 Alabama being upset by unranked Florida State. An upset that only Lee Corso saw coming. The Kalen DeBoer era has had some slip-ups that were rarely seen by his predecessor and it has people wondering how much longer he may last in Tuscaloosa. The guys share their thoughts on Coach DeBoer's situation in Alabama and what Florida State did to be successful. Are the Seminoles a team to be reckoned with this season? Plus they dive into one more game as they recap #9 LSU defeating #4 Clemson. What did they see from both teams that are encouraging signs for the rest of the season?

Finally, Andy, Ross and Steven take a look at how they did on their picks from Thursday. Despite how those picks may have gone, they decide to make one more pick as they preview Sunday night's game of #6 Notre Dame visiting #10 Miami. What questions do they need answered to believe 'The U' is back? Do they trust the Irish with a new quarterback running the show? They answer all of these and more.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Paulson, 50, reflected on staying in contact with O.J. Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark, nearly a decade after American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson was released

"She's a wonderful woman," Paulson said of the prosecutor, 71

Sarah Paulson is opening up about her connection with O.J. Simpson prosecutor (and her TV muse) Marcia Clark — revealing that the pair still keep in touch, nearly a decade after American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson was released.

Chatting with PEOPLE at the Television Academy Hall of Fame on Aug. 16, Paulson, 50, spoke about keeping in touch with Clark, 71, whom she starred as in the 2016 Ryan Murphy series about O.J. Simpson's murder trial.

According to the American Horror Story alum, Clark nearly attended one of the biggest parties she's ever thrown — but the pair last saw each other "during the pandemic."

"We emailed and she was supposed to come to my 50th birthday bash, but at the last minute had to work and so she couldn't," Paulson told PEOPLE. "I almost saw her six months ago. But that was it."

"She's a wonderful woman," she added of the prosecutor.

Paulson also joked that her 50th birthday party was one of the best events she's ever hosted.

"It was just superb and I'll never do it again," she said, sharing that she hired a DJ and had a big glass bowl of cigarettes for guests to enjoy. "Once you've done a big birthday party, it's like I threw myself a wedding. I married myself basically."

Back in 2016, Paulson spoke about just how daunting it was to take on the role of Clark in Ryan Murphy's FX series — which also starred Cuba Gooding Jr. as Simpson, Sterling K. Brown as Christopher Darden, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran and more.

Speaking to the Television Critics Association at the time, the actress said that when director Murphy approached her with the idea of playing Clark, she wasn't immediately eager to join the cast.

"[I felt] both, sort of, elated and completely worried that I wasn't going to be able to pull it off," Paulson said. "But there is a kind of magical thing that happens sometimes, which is when Ryan believes it, you sort of tend to believe it yourself."

Despite her trepidations, Paulson later took home the Emmy Award for outstanding lead actress in a limited series for her role as Clark — as well as a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award. Clark even attended the Emmy Awards as the actress' date in 2016.

"Having two small children and a husband who betrayed her and the public nature of all that scrutiny, which she was completely ill prepared to handle, it's like walking into a battle without any armor," she said, reflecting on Clark's perception at the time of Simpson's trial back in 1995.

"She just didn't have the skin for it. She didn't have any of that razzle-dazzle that Cochran had, and they all had. She just wasn't designed as much for public life," she continued.

"The most challenging part of it was just my own mental awareness that Marcia Clark walks the planet now, and that this is a real person I'm playing, and the responsibility of wanting to get it right," Paulson added.

"I had done so much research and watched so much footage and read so many books, as everybody did, that I came to really revere her, both as a legal mind and as a person," she concluded. "And the idea that I was going to be representing her somehow was really scary, a kind of heavy load to bear."

MIDLOTHIAN, TX – Amazon Prime Video will soon be blessing audiences with an animated spinoff of "The Chosen."

The streaming service plans 14 11-minute episodes of "The Chosen Adventures," inspired by the biblical drama. "Adventures" centers on Abby (Romy Fay), a character introduced in Season 1 of the live-action series depicting the life of Jesus (Jonathan Roumie). Abby, 9, lives in Capernaum and is full of curiosity. But she feels no one can satisfy her inquisitiveness until she and her best friend Joshua (Jude Zarzaur) cross paths with Jesus (also voiced by Roumie). The series is expected to arrive later in 2025.

In the third episode of the original series, Jesus spends time with a group of children "and people resonated with that episode so deeply," "The Chosen" creator Dallas Jenkins says on the set of his hit series while filming Season 6. Jenkins is an executive producer on "Adventures." "So when we started to realize that there was an opportunity to do an animated show, to explore these stories even more from the perspective of children," he thought the children who appeared in the earlier series were a "perfect" fit.

It's not merely a retelling of "The Chosen, but it's the random things that kids at that time would've gone through," Jenkins says, with a "whimsical tone."

"It will explore their lives," Roumie says, "and their questions about what it means to have faith, and who Jesus was and what impact his teachings have on their lives in a way that is done from a kid's perspective. ... Adults will still get so much out of it, but kids will love to see their perspective and their attitudes and the questions they may have; their curiosity reflected in this show."

"The Chosen Adventures" centers on Abby (Romy Fay) and her best friend Joshua (Jude Zarzaur), two children introduced in Season 1 of biblical drama "The Chosen."

"Adventures" introduces new characters to the "Chosen" universe. Paul Walter Hauser will voice a sheep character and Yvonne Orji a pigeon. Jordin Sparks has been cast as Fish. In addition to Roumie, other actors from "The Chosen" include Yasmine Al-Bustami (Ramah), Noah James (Andrew), Paras Patel (Matthew), Brandon Potter (Quintus), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene), Joey Vahedi (Thomas) and George H. Xanthis (John).

Roumie says his portrayal of Jesus in the animated series will resemble his representation in the drama.

"I wanted to approach it just a little bit softer because he is coming in for these moments of teaching and wisdom," he says. "You don't get the fullness of the conversations with Jesus on the adult level, but you get the important nuggets of wisdom that kids I think will be able to draw from and use in their own lives."

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Afghanistan's eastern region near the Pakistan border on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

USGS reported that the quake occurred 27km (16.77 miles) north-east of Jalalabad, in Nangarhar Province, and at a depth of 8km (4.97 miles). It struck at 11:47 p.m. local time. USGS models estimate the shaking could result in hundreds of fatalities.

Nearly half a million people likely felt strong to very strong shaking, which can result in considerable damage to poorly built structures, according to the USGS.

At least nine people were killed and 25 others were injured in Nangarhar, Reuters reported, citing Ajmal Darwaish, spokesman for the province's health department.

"Unfortunately, tonight's earthquake has had human casualties and financial damages in some of our eastern provinces," Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid posted on X.

"Right now, local officials and residents are making all the efforts to rescue affected ones. Support teams from the capital and nearby provinces are also on their way. All available resources will be used for the rescue and relief of the people," he added.

Around 20 minutes after the quake struck, a 4.5-magnitude aftershock hit the same region, according to USGS, later followed by a 5.2-magnitude aftershock — both at a depth of 10km (6.21 miles).

An orange alert was issued by the USGS PAGER system, which predicts economic and human loss after earthquakes.

"Significant casualties are likely and the disaster is potentially widespread. Past events with this alert level have required a regional or national level response," it said.

Ahmad Zameer, 41, a resident in Kabul, told CNN the earthquake was strong and jolted his neighborhood more than 100 miles from the epicenter. He added that everyone from the nearby apartment buildings rushed to the street in fear of being trapped inside.

In October 2023, more than 2,000 people died after a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck western Afghanistan – one of the deadliest quakes to hit the country in recent years.

This is a developing story and will be .
