HBO Max has released the first trailer for "The Pitt" Season 2, with returning stars Noah Wyle as Dr. Michael "Robby" Robinavitch, Patrick Ball as Dr. Frank Langdon and more. The new season premieres in January.

The trailer shows Robby clocking in for a new shift on a new day at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center's emergency room. "The prodigal son returns," quips one nurse as Robby walks in at the beginning of his shift. The new season will take place on the Fourth of July, which is also the first day back for Dr. Langdon after he returns from his inpatient rehab program. Robby ordered Langdon to attend rehab due to his drug problem in Season 1.

The Season 2 cast also includes Katherine LaNasa, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Sepideh Moafi.

In addition to starring on the new season, Wyle is stepping behind the camera and will direct an episode.

"I feel prepped, which is what you want to feel. This has been such an amazing experience for me, all the way down the line," he revealed at this month's Televerse TV festival. Wyle has previously directed episodes of "Leverage: Redemption," "The Librarians" and "Fallen Skies."

Season 2 will also tackle the current changes in healthcare around the country.

"Before we even start to write, we're conducting interviews with all sorts of people from every sector and vector of healthcare, and they tell us what they're up against. They tell us what they would love to see on TV, and they tell us what would really be counterproductive to what they're trying to do if we put it on TV," Wyle said at Televerse. "We dictate our storylines from there; it starts with people that are in the field and asking them to see what they're seeing and how they're reacting to it. It's a little bit more difficult to see 10 months in the future than it was last year, because events are changing so quickly on the ground right now, you don't really know what the world's gonna look like in 12 months, but there are worst-case scenario models.
