Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras perform on 'AGT'

Reality TV veteran Tom Sandoval's time on America's Got Talent is over.

The Vanderpump Rules alum's cover band, Tom Sandoval and the Most Extras, were eliminated from the competition on Wednesday's first results show of season 20.

Host Terry Crews dramatically brought out two acts at a time before declaring which of them had won the most votes from viewers to move forward to the semifinals. After Crews had revealed the top five, he announced the top three.

But Sandoval and company didn't get that far, as they lost out to comedian Shuler King, who's known for his jokes about being a funeral director.

After being eliminated, Sandoval and his band members, like the others, left the stage quickly.

But it wasn't a surprise that they were leaving. Their performance of the Weeknd's "Blinding Lights" on the previous night's first live show of the landmark season had left the judges wanting more.

Judge Simon Cowell, who was very much behind Sandoval when his band auditioned with a-ha's "Take On Me," had hit his "X," which the judges use when they want an act to stop. His reasoning was that the act "didn't sound great."

Fellow judges Mel B, Howie Mandel, and Sofia Vergara had been split. While the former Modern Family actress wanted to root for Sandoval, she agreed with Cowell that "the sound was not amazing."

Still, Vergara had found it "super entertaining."

And Mel B and Mandel wholeheartedly supported the musicians, with her complimenting the former cast member of The Traitors on his dance moves and the way he left her smiling.

In an interview ahead of what would become his final performance on America's Got Talent, Sandoval told EW on Monday that his band had practiced "nonstop for over a week" for their big moment.

"It was hard for us to find a song," he said, "and we had a couple choices that we couldn't clear or that just weren't right for a AGT. But we finally landed on what I feel like is the perfect song, and we're doing it in our way."

He also said going on the reality competition had helped people to see him differently than they had previously — that is, post-Scandoval.

While Sandoval's time on the show is over, four acts from the ones who performed this week will take the stage again: Steve Ray Ladson, who won Vergara's Golden Buzzer on Tuesday; trapeze artists (and exes) Sirca Marea; New Orleans singer Jourdan Blue, despite having suffered from food poisoning; and glow-in-the-dark dance team LightWire.

Eleven more acts will perform in the second of four live quarterfinals episodes Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
