Phillip Tietz and Phillipp Mwene scored in the first half for Mainz to secure its place in the division next season with no concerns about relegation. Mainz had been bottom of the table with nine defeats from 13 games when it appointed Urs Fischer as coach in December.

Wolfsburg was playing at Freiburg later and could move above St. Pauli into the relegation playoff place by avoiding defeat.

The bottom two are relegated automatically, while the team that finishes third from bottom has a two-leg playoff against the third-place finisher from the second division to determine which plays in the Bundesliga next season.

Also Sunday, Haris Tabaković scored late for Borussia Mönchengladbach to clinch its survival with a 1-0 win over second-place Borussia Dortmund.

Two rounds remain after this weekend.

Bayern Munich has already won the titlewith four rounds to spare. Schalkeclinched promotionback to the division on Saturday.

The Thunder are the defending world champions, andvirtually no onefeels the Lakers have any real shot at winning the series.

Luka Doncic is still out of action due to his Grade 2 hamstring strain, and there still doesn't seem to be any timetable for his return. For Oklahoma City, rising star forward Jalen Williams will be out of action in Game 1 because of a hamstring strain of his own. Reserve center Thomas Sorber is also out with a torn ACL that has kept him out all season.

While Doncic has begun to do some light shooting by himself during Lakers practice sessions, he doesn't seem to be close to doing even one-on-one work. He sustained his hamstring strain on April 2 when L.A. wasdestroyed 139-96by the Thunder at Paycom Center.

JJ Redick on one adjustment he will make for Lakers vs. Thunder series

There is a growing feeling thatLos Angeles Lakerscoach JJ Redick is becoming a good NBA head coach. He has guided the team to at least 50 regular-season wins in both of his two years at the helm, and he just directed them to a victory in the first round of the playoffs over theHouston Rockets— a victory no one predicted when that series began.

USA TODAY

But no one is immune to criticism, and there have been times when some have gotten on Redick for not calling quick enough timeouts during an opponent's hot streak. With the Lakers about to begin the Western Conference semifinals against the defending NBA championOklahoma City Thunder, he knows that he will have to adjust how he uses timeouts.

Hetalked aboutthe adjustments he will make in that department during a media session on Monday.

“They're really good at runs, and part of that is how good their defense is, their ability to create turnovers," Redick said. "The live-ball turnovers really kill you. ... I've got to be more diligent than I normally am. I like my timeouts, I like going into the fourth quarter with four timeouts, I like having two in the last 30 seconds. I don't think you have the luxury of worrying about that because the games get away from you so quick because of how explosive they are when they go on their runs.”

Los Angeles lost all four of its regular-season games to the Thunder during the regular season, and it lost three of those games by at least 29 points. The Thunder were first in defensive rating, second in opponents' turnover percentage and first in points off turnovers per game during the regular season, and they also had an incredible 11.1 net rating.

Blunting their momentum will be a big key for L.A. in this series if it is to be competitive. That means not only limiting live-ball turnovers but also calling quick timeouts when Oklahoma City starts a spurt and scoring immediately out of those timeouts.

Salmon and birds killed in ‘tragic’ chemical spill on River Spey tributary

A devastating pollution incident has wiped out a significant number of fish, eels, and birds in the Knockando burn, a tributary of the River Spey in Moray.

The Independent US Caustic soda may have entered a tributary of the River Spey (Spey Fishery Board/PA) (Local Library)

A chemical, thought to be caustic soda, is understood to have entered the water, "destroying" various species in recent days.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa) is investigating the potential pollution. Fly fishers warn the burn's salmon population has been "wiped out" and could take years to recover.

Duncan Ferguson, director of the Spey Fishery Board, said the pollution incident was one of the largest he had seen in 36 years of working on the river, with a two-kilometre stretch of the Knockando burn affected.

He said: “It’s a tragic event.

“It’s a really bad outcome and it didn’t have to happen.”

He said the salmon population could face a five-year period of recovery, with a two-kilometre stretch of the burn “destroyed”.

The chemical is thought to be industrially linked, he said.

The pollution incident comes at the peak period for fly fishing on the Spey, and just 10 days after another pollution incident at Spey tributary.

Earlier, a number of salmon died after white paint was spilled into the Burn of Carron.

A spokesman for Sepa said: “Sepa are investigating a potential pollution incident in a tributary of the River Spey and are working to identify the source and impacts.”
