Fans watching the first episode ofThe Madison,Yellowstonecreator Taylor Sheridan's latest Montana-set series, may have noticed a special dedication before the credits to thelate actor and director Robert Redford, who passed away last September at the age of 89. Unlikeprevious dedications onYellowstone, Redford himself wasn't involved in the production of the series, so what inspired the call out?

"I think anyone who watchesThe Madisonwill understand the connection to the dedication to Mr. Redford," explained director and executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros. "As a storyteller who has been inspired by his choices my entire career, it's an honor to have been able to make a show that is worthy of dedicating to him."

"A River Runs Through It"

Both an iconic filmmaker and a dedicated outdoorsman, Redford was a major figure in the cinematography of the American west. Perhaps most notably, in regard toThe Madison, Redford directed the filmA River Runs Through It—which won a Best Cinematography Oscar in 1993. The movie tells the story on a minister in 1920s Montana and his two sons, who traverse the complexities of their relationship through the lens of their love of fly fishing. The film makes an appearance in the episode, as Stacy and her daughters turn to it, as her husband Preston's favorite movie, in the wake of his unexpected death.

"That film was one of my father's favorite movies," Voros shared. "I lost my dad 10 years ago. There's a lot of poetry for me in telling a story about loss and love and discovering ourselves and our families through grief in a different lens than what we experience day to day. So there's a lot of beautiful serendipitous poetry in this show for me, andA River Runs Through Itis part of it."
