No Colorado player talked to media after the Buffaloes' blowout home loss to Arizona.
"No one will be available tonight, it's on me," Deion Sanders said at the start of his postgame press conference. "Don't attack the coordinators, come at me. Don't attack the players. Come at me. This is me. This has nothing to do with none of them. It has everything to do with me."
The Buffaloes lost 52-17 on homecoming night a week after losing 53-7 at Utah. Like against the Utes, Colorado was down big at halftime. The score was 43-0 at the break in Salt Lake City. It was 38-7 in Boulder.
Colorado committed five turnovers and had 14 penalties against the Wildcats. When asked how Saturday night's blowout loss happened, Sanders said he didn't have an answer.
"I have no idea, if I knew, I wouldn't have allowed it to happen," Sanders said. "It's on me. Straight up. On me."
Sanders repeatedly said the loss was "on me" and said he didn't believe the team was "checked out" as it dropped to 1-5 in Big 12 play and 3-6 overall. Colorado now needs to win games against West Virginia, Arizona State and Kansas State simply to make a bowl game.
"I know a quitter when I see one," Sanders said. "Hadn't seen that."
In the week leading up to the Arizona game, Sanders said he hadn't left the football facility since returning from the Utah loss as he was working to figure out what needed to be done differently in the wake of that defeat.
Freshman QB Julian Lewis got playing time against the Wildcats after the game was out of hand. The top-rated recruit has now appeared in two games this season and can play in two of Colorado's three remaining games and still keep his redshirt.
Lewis entered the game after starter Kaidon Salter was 11-of-15 passing for 49 yards with a touchdown and an interception and backup QB Ryan Staub threw interceptions on his first two passes of the third quarter.
"You gotta understand, I'm for the kids. If that's what they want, that's what they'll get," Sanders said when asked if Lewis could still redshirt in 2025. "I'm not going to mandate you gotta play, no no, whatever's best for these young men's careers, I'm for that."
