A maid of honor "forgot" her wedding speech, so she she talked about herself for "10 minutes" instead

"Everyone kind of just sat there, waiting for the part where she talked about the couple. It never came," one wedding guest recalled in a post on Reddit

Reddit users shared similar experiences in the comments section, noting that "people sometimes lose their minds when handed a microphone"

A bride's maid of honor made a self-centered wedding toast — and wedding guests are still talking about it.

One of the wedding guests explained what happened in a recent post on Reddit's "Wedding Drama" forum. When it was the maid of honor's turn to give a speech she conveniently "forgot" it, and instead took the time to talk about herself.

"Honestly, it was the weirdest speech I've ever heard at a wedding," the Redditor recalled. "People are still talking about it two days later."

The maid of honor began her speech by acknowledging that she had nothing prepared or memorized.

"[She] said, 'Oh no, I forgot my speech,' and then proceeded to grab the mic and talk for 10 minutes… about her own life," the wedding guest wrote. "She started with, 'Well, since I didn't plan anything…' and then launched into a story about her [life]."

From her dating life to her move to a new city, the maid of honor chronicled "how she's still figuring things out."

"Barely mentioned the bride and groom except to say they've 'been an inspiration,' " the wedding guest said. "Everyone kind of just sat there, waiting for the part where she talked about the couple. It never came. The bride was smiling but doing that polite, frozen smile. The groom looked like he was trying not to laugh."

The maid of honor didn't seem to catch on to her audience's uncomfortable reactions, because she finished her speech confidently, like "she'd just nailed a TED Talk."

"Anyway, this is their day, so I'll stop talking about me," the maid of honor concluded.

Reddit users were "baffled" by the maid of honor's toast, and shared similar "awkward" wedding and funeral speech stories in the comments section.

"Almost every wedding I've been too has had at least one baffling speech," the top comment reads. "I went to a wedding where the MOH (maid of honor, bride's sister) gave a speech on 'Things I've learned from my Marriage.' I could barely stay in my seat, my body wanted to run away lol."

"People sometimes lose their minds when handed a microphone," another person wrote.
