<p>Rom-com lovers, stand up. My Best Friend's Wedding—the 1997 classic starring Julia Roberts, Cameron Diaz, and Dermot Mulroney—is getting a sequel decades later. Collider reported that the project is in "very early development" (emphasis theirs) at Sony with Celine Song writing the script. This is huge news for fans of romance, yearning, and love triangles.</p>
<p>The original film follows Julianne (Roberts) and her best friend, Michael (Mulroney), who promised each other they'd get married if they were still single by the time they turned 28. <p>On July 25, Mulroney vaguely hinted at sequel plans. "I know nothing about it. Last I heard, quote, lawyers were talking, unquote," he told New York Post while promoting Netflix's The Hunting Wives.</p>
<p>Roberts even expressed interest back in 2023. When asked on Watch What Happens Live which of her films she'd like to see a sequel for, she replied, "I think, maybe, My Best Friend's Wedding," according to Deadline. "Because there's so many people in it, and to see what they're doing and how Kimmy and Michael's marriage is going and…"</p>
<p>And when host Andy Cohen asked her who Michael should have married, she added, "Well, I mean, of course, Jules, but he married Kimmy." Could this be a seed for the sequel?</p>
