ActorJosh Radnor, who's best known for starring on CBS sitcomHow I Met Your Mother, could have been part of another hit sitcom of that era.
Radnor, who played the part of main character Ted Mosby for nine seasons on the CBS sitcom, noted that he'd "auditioned for everything," includingArrested Development, before landing his big role. His list also included the part of Jim in the American version ofThe Office, which premiered in 2005.

But there was a problem, which he could only see in hindsight.
"I didn't quite understand if he was smart or not smart," Radnor told Jenna Fischer, who played Jim's love Pam onThe Officeduring a recent episode of the behind-the-scenesHow We Made Your Motherpodcast. "I was a little confused about whether he was part of the smart gang or not smart gang, and I remember I had a good audition, but my improvs were a little bit... I think made him too dim was kind of what I realized."
It wasn't a "terrible audition," but it wasn't quite right either, he realized later.
"I just think I didn't quite understand the tone exactly," Radnor said. "But I think we all landed in the right place anyway."
The part of Jim, of course, went to actor-directorJohn Krasinski, who played the character as funny and even snarky, but also sweet where Fischer's character of Pam, whom he eventually married, was involved. Krasinski was part of the show for all nine seasons until the finale in 2013.
Radnor, meanwhile, starred alongside Alyson Hannigan, Neil Patrick Harris, Jason Segel, and Cobie Smulders on the CBS sitcom about a dad telling his kids the story of him and his friends living and loving in New York City before they settled down.
How I Met Your Motheralso aired for nine episodes, from 2005 to 2014.
